Maintenance will keep your outdoor lighting system shining brightly this season.
Everyone knows spring as the time to clean up the house and the yard, but while spring is cleaning time, fall is the better time to do maintenance on your yard and the exterior of your home. Why? The sap is low in trees, making them less susceptible to diseases or insect infestation. Winter’s chill is just around the corner, so refreshing caulking, seals, and door sweeps is rather important for comfort and energy savings. Reseeding your lawn now gives the grass ample time to establish itself for spring. With all of these other outdoor maintenance tasks on your list, it’s a great time to do a little maintenance on your Kansas City outdoor lighting system. If you do it when you do your other outdoor maintenance, you’re less likely to forget it.
This fixture is filled with debris and could easily overheat.
At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Kansas City, we often discuss the quality of our outdoor lighting systems and their components. So you may be wondering, since our systems are such high quality, why you would need to work on it in the first place. Well, just like a quality automobile, appliance, or tool, outdoor lighting systems need a little TLC in order to keep them performing their best. If you neglect changing your oil and filters on your car, larger problems will emerge in time. Outdoor lighting systems are no different.
A little maintenance can help you avoid problems in the future.
So what needs to be done? Fixtures should be checked. This is especially important in the fall. Leaves are already dotting our lawns, and there will only be more in the coming weeks. Guess where many of the smaller ones will lodge. That’s right – in your outdoor lighting fixtures. Leaf and debris build up will cause fixtures to heat up, which can cause bulbs to burn out. Fall typically brings more rain than summer, and rain brings erosion. If wiring is not inspected regularly and recovered, erosion will expose it, which can lead to damage and even cut lines. Such a situation is particularly hazardous as it can result in a fire. Just a little attention to your system can prevent big problems from occurring.
So call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Kansas City. If you already have one of our systems installed, you may even have an Annual Maintenance Plan, meaning the cost of such maintenance is already covered. What will we do on a maintenance visit? Clean out your fixtures; check wiring and cover any that is exposed; adjust/reset any fixtures that have shifted and are no longer focused as they should be; and replace any burned out bulbs or components that are damaged. We will also inspect your transformer to ensure everything is functioning properly. While you’re already thinking about your lawn and the exterior of your home, pay a little attention to your outdoor lighting. It could save you a lot of money and grief in the future, and it will keep your home shining brightly this fall season.
