Safety vs. Security

Posted on November 16, 2011 by John Bruce

Safety is making sure a rocky path is lit, while security is what it means to keep unwanted intruders out. They both take different measures from a lighting standpoint. Although the differences are not all that different, they both take different measures to achieve. For instance, creating a “safe” environment with outdoor lighting would include lighting your pool area, making sure a walkway is lit, or creating a clear path from the street to the front door. Whereas creating a “secure” environment would include installing a timer for when you are out of town, and making sure dark areas around your house or lawn are well lit at all times.

As they are both important and safe measures, which one takes precedence in the suburbs? In the city?
